Tragedy Strikes: Passenger Plane Crashes Near Ahmedabad, India

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 – In a tragic turn of events, a domestic passenger aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, sending shockwaves across the nation. The incident occurred around 9:30 AM IST and involved Flight IN237, operated by IndiaJet Airlines, en route to Delhi.

Eyewitness Accounts and Emergency Response

According to eyewitnesses near the crash site in the outskirts of Chandkheda, the aircraft appeared to struggle gaining altitude before veering sharply and plummeting into an open field. “We saw smoke trailing behind the plane, and then it descended rapidly,” said Ramesh Patel, a local resident. “There was a loud explosion, and flames erupted immediately.”

Emergency services were on the scene within minutes. Fire brigades, ambulances, and disaster response teams coordinated efforts to contain the blaze and rescue survivors. Hospitals in Ahmedabad were placed on high alert.

Casualties and Survivors

Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft was carrying 76 passengers and 6 crew members. As of this writing, 38 fatalities have been confirmed, with over 20 others hospitalized, several in critical condition. Search operations continue as authorities comb through the wreckage.

Investigation Underway

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Officials have confirmed that the aircraft underwent routine maintenance checks just 48 hours prior. The black box has been recovered and will be analyzed for flight data and cockpit voice recordings.
