SummerSlam 2025 has come, and this weekend’s two-day spectacle will be the most spectacular it has ever been. The action began on Saturday, August 2, with six contests that included a mix of championship bouts and intense rivalries clashing. Jelly Roll made his in-ring debut in tag team competition, as Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker faced Roman Reigns and Jey Uso in a significant battle of organizations.
“The Best in the World” was vying for his first WWE title in over ten years as CM Punk faced Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, the night’s main event.

World Heavyweight Championship match: Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk
Knowing that the main event match would be an utter struggle, both stars approached it slowly. Punk was obstructing the initial attempts, but Gunther felt it out before landing a chop. Despite the vicious blow, Punk remained unfazed and resumed performing submissions. Gunther didn’t get any control till he continued to hack Punk’s body continuously.
Punk repeatedly attempted to defend himself after taking chop after chop, but Gunther always came back with a larger blow with his fists or boot. As Punk attempted to stand up again, Gunther was gloating about his dominance, but all he got in return waA little glimmer of optimism for punk was swiftly extinguished. Punk somehow flipped the sharpshooter that Gunther had his opponent in into his own submission. Gunther was able to seize the ropes to break up the submissions, which are known to be too much for the champion to handle.
